My Apocalypse Trader (Wild Apocalypse Protectors, #4) by Celia Skye (Review)

“Maybe this is how it ends. Maybe this is what I deserve—dying alone on a road to nowhere, carrying supplies for ghosts.”

My Apocalypse Trader by Celia Skye is the fourth book in the Wild Apocalypse Protectors series. We’re dropped right into the action with Hazel, a medic, trying to save supplies that raiders murdered her convoy for. In this post-apocalyptic dystopian world, humans are holed up in settlements to stave off zombies and monsters in the shape of greedy humans.

“Survivor’s guilt. I know it intimately. Know the way it sits in your chest like a stone, the way it makes every breath feel like betrayal.”

Travis, a convoy coordinator transporting supplies to survivors, is working hard to change that by connecting settlements and humanity to a greater purpose—that of cooperation and community rather than raw survival. And when Hazel and Travis meet, they realize that in each other, they can reach their full potential.

“Instead of answering, I kiss him. Hard and desperate and fierce, tasting fear and adrenaline and the sharp edge of being alive when we should be dead.”

I enjoyed the realistic exploration of trauma and grief, despite the story’s novella length and frequent spice. But even though it was written in dual POV, I don’t believe I learned enough about why these characters would fall so deeply in love to make it believable. So, I felt disconnected from them until the middle of the book. However, that’s typically the nature of instalove. Overall, a solid read!
